Mahashmashana by Father John Misty

Bought it on Bandcamp the morning it came out and listened to it on the bus. Got so worked up into a frenzy that I drew a picture of Father John Misty as a baby deer. Called him Fawn-er John Misty.

Weakest song is Screamland, which I still liked, but felt weirdly pop-like and not anything like the rest of the album, or Mr. Misty's work in general. The lyrics are good, the melody is good, but there's a weird overproduction to it.

My favorite song is I Guess Time Makes Fools of Us All, which has this groovy disco energy to it. I know I just critiqued the genre change in Screamland, but here, it didn't seem so out of place.

In summary: I liked it! -November 28th, 2024
